The best way to detoxify is to stop putting toxic things into the body and depend upon it's own mechanisms. - Dr. Andrew Weil
Welcome to Groundfruit.
Groundfruit's mission is to educate consumers about the benefits of eating natural, organic, whole foods and treating ailments holistically with natural remedies. Everything we need to nourish and heal our bodies comes from naturally from mother earth. Anything unnatural you add to alter its properties, will lead to a loss of nutrition and possible toxicity.
After several years of battling all kinds of chronic digestive disorders, and seeking the advice of doctor after doctor, I decided to do a diet diary which detected a severe gluten intolerance. After years of eating all things wheat, I was making myself sicker and sicker. The only treatment is to avoid ALL foods containing gluten, and to eat natural whole foods. It has been quite a challenge but I have embraced the simplicity of eating fresh, whole fruits and vegetables along with healthy proteins. I'm constantly looking at labels and making much healthier choices. While I will be providing useful content to those suffering with gluten-related issues, my larger intent is to share information and provide support to others who are looking to take control of their own well-being by making healthier nutritional choices.
Twenty-five years ago a co-worker of mine who happened to be a Vietnam Vet, turned me on to a book called "Back to Eden." He was about 50 but had the body of a 20 year old, so I listened. The book is a manual on how to use medicinal herbs to heal a multitude of health conditions. I was skeptical so I asked my pharmacist what he thought and he explained to me that many medications have organic origins so the chances that certain herbs have truly medicinal properties is highly probable. Since then I have been on the search for the best herbal remedies to add to my daily regiment to help me fight off illnesses and move closer to a optimum state of wellness.
I also have derived great benefit from yoga and the therapy of mind and body awareness. We all live busy lives these days and very often, we dismiss or neglect things that we know may prevent us from maintaining our demanding schedules. As you navigate this website, think about the bits and pieces of information that can encourage you to set aside 30 minutes to an hour per day and dedicate them to quiet mind and body surveillance. Just stop, close your eyes, breathe and mind-scan your body to detect any improvements you may want to make. Attention to your holistic health and wellness is invaluable in the detection and treatment of the root cause of chronic conditions and diseases.
Groundfruit celebrates the way we used to eat not so long ago. From the soil to the mouth should be easier. Your body heals itself naturally if you just let it. It seems that there is more processing, genetic modification and adulteration of food going on before it gets to the table. Eating local and organic is the best way to incorporate fresh, nutritious whole foods into your diet and Groundfruit will provide suggestions to help you transition to a healthier you.
So come along with me on my journey. Let's do it together. I will not hold back and I promise not to be preachy. I just will pass along the information that I discover. Am I suggesting that you go gluten free? No. Just test yourself to see what changes in your diet make you feel your best. I just would challenge you to add more organic whole foods to your diet and consider herbal remedies and holistic health solutions before you ask for prescriptions. Oh by the way, if you have advice for me, I would love to hear it. Please feed me information, that's what a community is all about. It's going to be fun and you never know, you may find yourself feeling better than ever.
